In 1984, they won the Brit Award for Best British Group, the Grammy Award for Best New Artist, and Best British Single. They were nominated the same year for the Grammy Award for Pop Vocal by Group or Duo but the were beaten byThe Police

In the UK they amassed twelve Top 40 hit singles between 1982–1999.

The lead singer occasionally sang with the group Bow Wow Wow under the stage name Lieutenant Lush
